Edward Cook is a Director of Alaric Compliance Services, LLC and serves as the Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) to both registered investment advisers and registered investment companies; he is currently the CCO to a business development company (BDC) and to registered investment advisers with hedge fund, mutual fund and business development company clients. Mr. Cook has extensive experience with establishing and managing the compliance programs for business development companies. He has also developed the compliance programs for Funds of Funds and worked in a supporting capacity to the CCOs of mutual funds, closed-end funds and Fund of Funds.
He began as a practicing attorney over 20 years ago, initially with Cahill Gordon & Reindel where he litigated the roles and responsibilities of service providers over the pricing and valuation of fund holdings. His securities practice also included the Drexel Burnham Lambert reorganization as well as other matters for financial industry clients. Mr. Cook also worked for several years as a commercial litigator at the law firm of Wilson, Elser, Moskowitz, Edelman and Dicker and has acted as counsel to a number of small corporations.
In his nearly 5 years on active duty with the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General's Corps, Mr. Cook served as a trial attorney and later as legal advisor to several admirals. He presently holds the rank of Commander in the Navy Reserve. Additionally, Mr. Cook's public sector experience includes his roles as Counsel to the head of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement at the Department of Homeland Security, where he contributed to the development of the national anti-money laundering strategy, and as a municipal judge elected for 2 terms.
Mr. Cook received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was an editor of the Journal of Law and Politics, and his A.B. from the College of William & Mary. He is admitted to practice law in New York and before the Second and Fourth Circuits of the U.S. Court of Appeals, the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and the U.S. Tax Court.
